Learner Spotlight: Amber at Maths No Problem

Name: Amber Parsons
Age: 23
Course: Customer Service Level 2
Employer: Maths No Problem, Tunbridge Wells

How did you hear about Apprenticeships?

It was recommended to me by somebody in my workplace. When they first approached me about it I was interested straight away as any training is good training and all of the funding is covered. With customer service you don’t really have any qualifications, you only have experience, so it is nice to have something official.

What were your roles during your Apprenticeship?

Initially when I started I was Customer Service Advisor but during the Apprenticeship I was promoted to Customer Retention Manager and I am sure some of that was down to doing the Apprenticeship.

What skills do you feel you have gained?

I am much better with colleagues, I am better at understanding relationships with them and general communication with them, as well as suppliers. I have become much more aware how I come across and what I am saying when I am speaking to people.

How has Runway Training helped you?

The ongoing support was great. We would see our trainer every 6 weeks initially and then more often as the Apprenticeship went on as we needed more support. The online portal kept us up to date with where we were at.

How has the Apprenticeship helped you?

I can only imagine that it is going to be positive for me in the future. It has given me a qualification in something I am interested in and I have learnt lots of skills.

Would you recommend Apprenticeships and why?

Yes, absolutely. You get a lot of support and you get a good time frame; a year is a long time to complete a qualification and it teaches you things which you might have not necessarily known or weren’t familiar with. I want to do a Level 3 Sales course now so it has opened my eyes up to other training possibilities.

Have you got any advice for people looking for apprenticeships or applying for them?

Everyone I have spoken to at Runway was really helpful and quick to respond, so I would say if you find an Apprenticeship you are interested in which Runway are advertising, get in touch!

What are your future plans?

As I have the new role in this job, I will carry on doing that for as long as I feel like I suppose. I am in a really good place and I love my job and really enjoy customer service.

The end goal?

I would like to move into key relationships and be a point of contact for a higher value customers.
