Teacher

Ability to create Schemes of Work and deliver engaging lessons to learners between 16 and 64 at a range of levels in Functional Skills or vocational subjects, with the aim of enabling learners to reach the required standards to achieve a qualification between Entry 1 and Level 3. Keep an accurate record of attendance, performance and progress being made by each individual learner, ensuring that reviews take place. Identify areas for improvement which assist progress towards completion of all aspects of the course. Create an inspiring environment for students to learn and support individuals with any problems they have as a first point of contact.

Main Responsibilities & Duties of the Role.

  • Effectively deliver and manage classroom-based lessons in the subject required, be it employability, Functional Skills or a vocational subject area in which the deliverer has the required skills.
  • Motivate and inspire learners throughout the programme.
  • Ensure learners understand the requirements, features, and benefits of their programme.
  • Coach, guide and encourage learners to give them the necessary confidence, skills, motivation, and knowledge to progress.
  • Offer information, advice and guidance to learners throughout their programme to support their progression into a positive destination.
  • Use differentiation to set tasks that challenges all learners.
  • Teach using a range of styles and aids, with individual and group tasks that develop knowledge and social interaction with others
  • Mark, assess, monitor, and provide written/verbal feedback to learners re their work, interaction and soft skills
  • Ensure compliant completion of all paperwork.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports as set and requested by the Senior Teacher to report on attendance, progress made, concerns, and any other related information.
  • Work to, and achieve, company-set key performance indicators.
  • Attend training events/courses as required, maintaining own CPD.
  • Commitment to safeguarding children and adult learners, ensuring that any concerns are raised with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Experience, Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, Training & Attributes

Professional Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

Essential

  • Proven experience as a teacher in the required subject areas.
  • Proven experience of building good relationships with students.
  • Knowledge of strategies to maximise student attendance and achievements.
  • Well organised.
  • Experience of working with a range of ages.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills plus use of Internet, Social Media and on-line teaching platforms (Teams, Zoom etc).

Desirable

  • Willingness to attend training courses to widen scope of subjects that can be taught.
  • Attendance at conferences to ensure latest ideas and strategies are implemented.
  • Strong teamworking skills with colleagues to enable progress, coordination and cover for illness, holidays etc as required.
  • Awareness and experience of Ofsted inspections and requirements to ensure Good/Outstanding grades.

Qualifications and Training:

Essential

  • Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics.
  • Minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or willingness to work towards).

Desirable

  • Level 2 IAG qualification.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (or willingness to work towards).
  • At least one vocational area of experience and ability/knowledge in addition to Functional Skills/Digital Skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage difficult situations between learners

  • Be able to engage and develop professional relationships with learners aged from 16 – 64, people with potentially challenging barriers to employment and those from a diverse range of backgrounds.

  • Punctual both in terms of arrival in the morning and being ready to start lessons on time (expectation is that teachers are in the classroom at least 15 minutes before session is due to start, so each learner can be welcomed in as they arrive)
