Multiply is the government initiative to help adults develop their mathematical ability and understand how these skills can be used in daily life – in the home and at work. By supporting adults with their understanding of how to improve household finances, how to help children with homework and developing skills in specific lines of work (in construction or the health sector for example) the Multiply scheme aims to provide everyone with the skills they need to succeed. With no formal final exam and many short courses to enrol on, learners can tailor their learning to their individual needs. With half of the working population (around 17m people) not holding a C/4 grade in GCSE maths*, there is a need for upskilling, particularly in times of economic hardship.
We can help provide you with functional numeracy skills in our free courses, both taught online and in person. People who improve their numeracy skills are more likely to be in employment, have higher wages and better wellbeing*. For many parents or caregivers, the lack of mathematical skills can make supporting their children with schoolwork challenging. Our courses are designed to help reduce any anxiety that might be present from previous learning and get you in the right mindset, and equipped with the skills, to support them with their homework.
Our Multiply courses could be the first steps in building your confidence and knowledge of maths, to not only help you in your personal life, but in your career too. Did you know that many of the learning objectives covered in Multiply are actually within the Level 1 and 2 Functional Skills programmes? Gaining your Level 2 maths Functional Skills qualification can unlock doors to a new job, an apprenticeship or further study. For parents with school-aged children, gaining a Functional Skills qualification in maths (Level 2 is equivalent of a GCSE) can help enormously with supporting them with maths homework, as well as modelling a healthy attitude to life long learning.

The phrase that ‘there is not enough’ time is one that we frequently hear. The reality is that time is often not being utilised to the best advantage or planned and controlled in an orderly fashion. Managing time means getting more control over how we spend it and there are some straightforward techniques that can be applied. This short course will explore how we can condition our environment, rather than allowing our environment to condition us, and not allow time pressures to build up from the interruptions, questions or demands of others.
