To work with Senior Leadership Team and the Managing Director to ensure efficient and effective financial management, including setting and monitoring budgets, day to-day financial management, and providing advice and guidance and financial reports, to inform the development and delivery of our strategic plan. To work with all staff to ensure Runway fulfils its legal and regulatory requirements, including coordinating the implementation of health and safety, GDPR and other policies and procedures, and to lead on resources support. The role manages the company finance and resources function and reports to the Head of HR .

Vacancy Overview

Undertaking a range of administrative tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Taking responsibility for budget planning, monitoring, reporting, and cash flow planning.  Conducting risk analysis.
  • Preparation of month end reports to departmental managers.
  • Ensuring financial policies and procedures comply with relevant legislation/regulations, reflect best practice and are applied throughout Runway Training.
  • Ensuring that IT, printers, equipment, procurement, health and safety, premises, vehicles, phones and office moves are managed effectively.
  • Prepare monthly reports to Governors, yearly & six-monthly projections and analysis, and ad hoc reports as necessary.
  • Support policy and procedure development and implementation, including procurement, use of resources, financial claims.
  • Review, improve and ensure implementation of financial and resource management processes.
  • Ensure insurance is in place for all activity.
  • Continually improve and manage Vehicle, equipment, IT, phone and internet contracts.
  • Provide support for effective governance.
  • To work with the rest of the staff team to carry out any other task or project required from time to time, as directed by the Head of HR and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Management of the outsourced payroll.
  • Process all payments related to payroll, including tax and pension.
  • Preparation of monthly payroll journal.
  • Check all expenses have been approved, upload to Xero, and then arrange payment.
  • Check all invoice payables are approved, upload to Xero, and then arrange payment.
  • Check all company card transactions and investigate any unexpected transactions.  Keep the company account, and staff cards up to date.
  • Check fixed assets purchases have been processed correctly to the Balance Sheet.
  • Raise Sales Invoices as required and send to customers. Investigate any customer enquiries.
  • Debtor Management, assist in the collection of overdue fees.
  • Undertake Bank Reconciliations and investigate any unexpected entries.  Ensure all Bank Accounts are fully reconciled at the month end.
  • Maintain Xero accounts and ensure that all transactions are recorded to the correct account / cost codes. Undertaken month end checks on account recording.
  • Maintain all Balance Sheet account reconciliations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank loans, payroll, asset accounts and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare month end journals to include prepayments and accruals.
  • Prepare for annual audit, investigate and resolve any audit issues as they arise.

Professional experience, skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of management accounting, including analysis and commentary.
  • Experience of audits, invoices, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable and budget preparation.
  • Experience of working with and co-ordinating expenditure across multi-project budgets.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, including VAT, and accounting processes.
  • Ability to manage payroll.
  • Knowledge of financial legislation.
  • Experience of managing staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time-sensitive tasks.
  • Ability to work flexibly and occasionally out of hours.
  • Use of payroll software.
  • Working knowledge of using Xero.
  • Experience of education sector accounting/finance.
  • Experience or understanding of project management.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims and objectives of Runway Training
  • Experience of developing and delivering Finance, Resource and IT policy and procedures.
  • Understanding of VAT

  • Experience of working in skills and training sector

  • Attendance at a mentoring course

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Fully or part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level
  • Willing to undertake further qualification as part of self development
