Apprenticeship Teacher – AI and Automation Practitioner

• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality apprenticeship training sessions (relevant to the curriculum plan) that develop apprentices’ knowledge, skills and behaviours in AI, automation and digital technologies, ensuring they make sustained progress from their starting points through the effective use of formative assessment and feedback.

• Design and review learning resources to ensure content remains current, industry-relevant and aligned to the requirements of the AI and Automation Practitioner apprenticeship standard, emerging technologies and employer needs.

• Conduct regular progress reviews with apprentices and employers, evaluating progress towards occupational competence and programme milestones, and agreeing meaningful action plans to support successful achievement.

• Support apprentices in applying learning within the workplace, helping them identify opportunities to utilise AI and automation tools to improve business processes, innovation and operational effectiveness.

• Promote safe, ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, while maintaining effective safeguarding, wellbeing, online safety and professional standards in all aspects of delivery.

• Monitor apprentice engagement, attendance, achievement and workplace performance, providing timely updates and reports to line managers and implementing intervention strategies where progress falls below expectations, through Runway Training’s Learner Engagement and At-Risk policy.

• Maintain accurate and compliant apprentice records, including learning plans, progress reviews, assessment evidence, feedback and achievement documentation, in line with funding, quality assurance and awarding organisation requirements.

• Work collaboratively with employers, workplace mentors and other stakeholders to support apprentice development and maximise opportunities for workplace learning and professional growth.

• Contribute to quality improvement activities, including standardisation, observation of teaching and learning, self-assessment and continuous enhancement of curriculum delivery.

• Provide impartial Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) to support apprentices’ career progression and professional development within all relevant sectors, to ensure that apprentices are prepared effectively for further programmes of study, promotions or alternative future job opportunities.

• Attend staff development, curriculum planning, standardisation and team meetings as required.

• Promote the organisation and its apprenticeship provision through excellent teaching, stakeholder engagement and customer service.

• Maintain professional and occupational competence through a minimum of 35 hours annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including keeping abreast of developments in artificial intelligence, automation technologies and digital transformation as well as developing and reflecting on current andragogical practices.

• Adhere to all safeguarding, data protection, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion policies and procedures.

• Participate fully in performance review and appraisal processes, undertaking agreed development activities to enhance teaching and industry expertise.

• Work collaboratively as an active member of the curriculum team, sharing best practice, resources and sector knowledge to support the achievement of organisational objectives.

• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as reasonably required by your manager or wider leadership team.

Professional experience, skills and knowledge

Essential Qualifications

• Level 4 or above qualification in a relevant subject area such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Digital Technologies, Software Development, Automation, Business Technology or a related discipline.

• GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.

• Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, DET, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training) or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe.

• Assessor qualification (CAVA, A1, D32/33 or equivalent) or willingness to work towards.

Essential Experience

• Experience of teaching, training, coaching or mentoring learners in a further education, higher education, apprenticeship or workplace setting.
• Experience of designing and delivering engaging learning programmes using a range of teaching methodologies.
• Experience of monitoring learner progress and providing effective developmental feedback.
• Experience of using digital technologies to support learning and assessment.
• Experience of working with employers and other stakeholders.
• Experience of maintaining accurate learner records and meeting quality assurance requirements.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

• Knowledge of AI technologies, automation tools and digital transformation principles.
• Understanding of current developments, trends and applications of artificial intelligence within industry.
• Knowledge of apprenticeship delivery and assessment processes.
• Understanding of safeguarding, Prevent, online safety and equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Knowledge of effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies.

Desirable Qualifications

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Digital Technologies or a related field.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Internal Quality Assurance qualification (IQA/V1).
• Coaching or mentoring qualification.

Desirable Experience

• Experience of delivering apprenticeship standards.
• Experience of delivering Level 4 or higher digital, data or technology qualifications.
• Experience working within an AI, automation, software, data analytics or digital transformation role.
• Experience supporting learners through apprenticeship assessment or End-Point Assessment/Apprenticeship Assessment.
• Experience of curriculum development within digital or technology programmes.
• Experience of remote and online delivery.

• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and effective interpersonal skills.
• Team player.
• Flexible, agile, prepared to travel. There is a requirement with this post to deliver workshops at agreed locations.
• Be able to engage and develop professional relationships with learners across a wide age range and a diverse range of backgrounds.
• Ability to set and work to deadlines.
