This role will

  • Deliver targeted employability support to individuals aged 50+ who are furthest from the labour market, helping them overcome significant barriers such as long-term health conditions, low literacy/numeracy/English proficiency, and issues related to addiction.
  • Deliver support to help build confidence, enhance job-readiness, and facilitating movement toward or into employment.
  • Monitor participant progress against programme KPIs (e.g. confidence building, CV submission, job applications, job offers), and submit regular updates and success stories to DWP and internal stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities & duties of the role.

Deliver Tailored Employability Coaching

  • Facilitate both group and 1-2-1 sessions to develop participants’ employability skills including CV writing, job searching, and interview techniques.
  • Design engaging employability content to deliver in group settings
  • Conduct initial assessments and ongoing development plans to identify and address personal and systemic barriers to employment, including mental health, addiction, or chronic illness.
  • Support participants in managing long-term health issues in the context of employment, including guidance on FIT notes and understanding UC-related processes.
  • Help participants improve essential digital skills such as using email, search engines, and managing online job applications and Universal Credits accounts.
  • Encourage regular attendance and maintain high levels of engagement throughout the 10-week cycle.
  • Match learners to live vacancies secured by the Business Development team, as well as roles on the open labour market.
  • Support with interview feedback for unsuccessful applications and onboarding for those that have secured work.

Recruitment, Outcome Tracking and Reporting

  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding of each cohort onto the 10 week programme, ensuring that robust IAG is carried out from the first meeting.
  • Maintain all learner records to a high standard, ensuring contract compliance and detailing session information and action plans.
  • Monitor and track learners who have finished programme to identify and record job outcomes.
  • Maintain caseload records, reporting monthly on activities and progress of each learner
  • Record information on soft outcomes and engagement, such as increased confidence and employability skills

Partnership Working and Signposting

  • Liaise with external partners and referral organisations to ensure wrap-around support for participants, particularly for mental health or welfare needs.
  • Attend publicity and marketing events to recruit for the programme, including job fairs and career information days.

Experience, Skills knowledge qualifications training & attributes

The successful candidate will have a background and knowledge of working with vulnerable andor complex client groups (eg older adults, long term unemployed, people with addictions or health challenges.

Professional experience, skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Proven experience in supporting groups of learners through employability programmes
  • Experience in career coaching, adult education, or community outreach.
  • Knowledge of the welfare system and benefits.- including but not limited to FIT notes, sick pay and Universal Credits.
  • Knowledge of strategies to maximise student attendance and achievements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills with a compassionate, non-judgemental approach.
  • Practical knowledge of job markets, CV development, and interview preparation.
  • Experience working with adults in a learning environment
  • Driven and focused with an understanding of KPI’s.
  • Experience of working with a range of ages
  • The ability to understand the monitoring, evaluation and service requirements of the project
  • Well organised, with attention to detail in reporting and session planning.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills plus use of Internet, social media, and on-line teaching platforms (Teams, Zoom etc).

Desirable

  • Experience of assisting individuals with benefit advice, better off calculations.
  • Experience delivering up to and including Level 2 qualifications
  • Experience delivering ESOL or basic skills (literacy/numeracy).
  • Strong teamworking skills with colleagues to enable progress, coordination and cover for illness, holiday etc when required.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • IAG Level 2, or be willing to work towards.

Desirable

  • Teaching or coaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, IAG, etc.).
  • CAVA qualification
  • Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics

  • Willingness to travel between Barking and Romford, and other sites as and when required to attend staff meetings and/or training. (including HQ Tonbridge and Croydon)
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
