Business Development Manager

The main purpose of this role is to develop new business opportunities, whilst building and maintaining existing relationships with referral partners and employers. You will be responsible for meeting and exceeding client expectations and working with the wider Runway team to ensure a seamless learner journey.

Specifically, this will involve the following:

  • Identify clients, within an agreed parameter, capable of supporting products
  • Build new relationships with prospective companies
  • Develop existing relationships to increase business levels
  • Telephone contact, as necessary, to schedule meetings and maintain relationships.
  • Support agreed marketing campaigns, as required.
  • Develop and maintain product knowledge
  • Keep clients up to date with funding, new initiatives, practices and procedures
  • With the assistance of the Head of Business Development and other team members, resolve client issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Attend and support intermediary industry conferences/seminars, as requested
  • Keep CRM system up to date
  • Be equipped with product and industry information:
  • Acquire, maintain and update personal knowledge of our products & procedures.
  • Acquire, maintain and update personal technical and legislative knowledge required to support the products.
  • Acquire, maintain and update personal knowledge of Regulatory developments as they impact on the role and the clients.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of competitors’ contracts and tactics.
  • Attend training & development courses as required.
  • Co-ordination with other functions
  • Ensure liaison with other functions is efficient and effective.
  • Ensure all records and reports are completed and submitted in line with company standards.
  • Ensure that all dealings are in line with the Company’s regulatory guidelines
  • Identify, analyse and implement process improvements
  • Collaborate with finance for sales forecasting
  • Quickly test new ideas, using our innovation practices
  • Combine data and insights leading to quick and effective decision making
  • Deputising for the Head of Business Development
  • Conducting regular meetings with delivery staff and support staff as appropriate. 
  • Proactively contributing to team and organisational meetings and events. 
  • Designing and delivering internal training, if required, to meet the needs of the team and the wider company.
  • Attending relevant meetings and feeding back to the team.
  • Continuously reviewing systems, processes and procedures and implement improvements efficiently and effectively. 
  • Monitoring the recording of information and prepare reports where required, e.g. monthly reports, quarterly reports etc. 
  • Attend meetings with Head of Business Development as required

Professional experience, skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills (written and verbal) 
  • Driven and focused with an understanding of KPIs and the ability to hit targets
  • An ability to organise your own workload including the capacity to handle pressure and to be adaptable to changing or conflicting demands 
  • Knowledge of work-based learning, including Apprenticeships & Traineeships
  • An understanding of Levy funding
  • Proven experience as a Manager 
  • Knowledge of strategies to engage employers and referral agencies
  • Well organised
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Flexibility and openness to change
  • Resourcefulness and excellent time management skills
  • Able to take the initiative 
  • Project management experience
  • Have knowledge of the various funding/contracts and compliance requirements for all areas.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills plus use of Internet, Social Media and CRMs

Desirable

  • Willingness to attend training courses to widen scope of subjects that can be taught
  • Attendance at conferences to ensure latest ideas and strategies are implemented  
  • Strong teamworking skills with colleagues to enable progress, coordination and cover for illness, holiday etc when required  

Qualifications and Training 

Essential 

  • Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics 
  • Level 3 management qualification (or willing to work towards)
  • Previous Management experience 
  • High attention to detail

Desirable

  • Level 3 IAG qualification
  • L3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent)
  • L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or willing to work towards)
  • Mental Health First Aider

  • An ability to understand, implement and construct professional boundaries 
  • An ability to initiate and maintain constructive relations with clients, colleagues and other professionals from a wide variety of cultural and social backgrounds
