Runway Training was established in 2008 as a provider specialising in adult literacy and numeracy. Today we offer a wide range of courses and deliver across the South East. To date, we have helped in excess of 25,000 learners achieve nationally-recognised qualifications, enabling them to develop the skills they require to achieve their goals.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide induction, initial assessment, advice and guidance to learners who are undertaking the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training:
      • Support, advice and assist learners during their training
      • Deal with queries when supervising learners.
      • Participate in the promotional and marketing aspects of Runway.
      • Undertake initial assessment of learners and assist in the learner actions planning
      • To complete all necessary documentation and administration to include assessment and review documentation, ILPs, updating database, filing, etc.

 

  • To assess learners’ progress and maintain records of assessments of learning carried out:
      • Maintain accurate records of learner assessments and achievements.
      • To be responsible for the progress and achievement of learners allocated in line with targets set and KPIs
      • Keep Line Manager advised of learners in respect of progression, monitoring and further needs – learner tracking
      • Maintain efficient record keeping and tracking systems using the systems provided and stipulated by the Runway Training and report agreed targets in a timely manner against agreed deadlines. This is to include withdrawals; transfers and assessments to enable the tracking of learner progress on a real time basis.

 

  • To ensure that individual students’ learning needs are met through:
      • Delivering face-to-face or online lessons which support learners with their pedagogical development and understanding of education and training across the sector.
      • Undertaking live observations of teaching, learning and assessment (at a learner’s place of work) along with facilitating professionally supported reflective practice
      • Supporting the development of learners towards maximising their full potential and stretch their knowledge where possible, ensuring all learners experience quality standards in line with Runway Training and Ofsted guidelines.
      • Using a variety of teaching resources, worksheets and ICT to get the best out of learners
      • Utilising a range of online teaching and training tools to maximise learning and develop digital literacy skills of trainee teachers.
      • Building good relationships with learners, considering their wellbeing at all times, and offering mentoring as required
      • Maintaining discipline and good behavioural standards of assigned learners
      • Identifying additional learning support requirements where appropriate to ensure a referral is made to Runway’s ALN co-ordinator
      • Working collaboratively with Runway Staff and all stakeholders

Development

  • A personal commitment to keeping your professional knowledge up to date and improving your capabilities. Evidence of a written record of the Continual Professional Development (CPD) undertaken.
  • Being involved in broader workings of the organisation (e.g. through involvement in working groups)

General

  • Undertake all duties in accordance with Runway Training’s policies and procedures with particular reference to Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.

 

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

Functional Skills Tutors are expected to:

  • Start sessions and attend appointments on time
  • Give good notice of any absence and in accordance with the Runway Training’s procedures
  • Keep up to date with developments in their subject area
  • To keep an up-to-date CPD record
  • Participate in Runway’s Performance Appraisal System.
  • Keep accurate and up to date learner paperwork
  • Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in Runway’s policies and procedures (e.g. health and safety, equality and diversity etc.)
  • Be involved in the Runway’s quality assurance arrangements (Induction, Lesson Observation, Appraisal and gathering/analysing feedback from your students with a view to implementing continual improvement to your course on an ongoing/annual basis.)
  • Participate in a customer-centred approach to service delivery
  • Be involved in any Inspection of Runway by OFSTED or other external organisations
  • To work flexibly and efficiently, to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of Runway Training
  • To update Individual Learning Plans (ILP’s) for each learner, incorporating the findings of the initial assessment and initiate Skills for Life/Learning support as needed, differentiating the learning programme in light of that assessment and to work in close liaison with the Apprenticeship Manager/ALN co-ordinator to ensure that these needs are met.
  • Liaise with the Functional Skills Manager, Operations Manager, Quality Manager Internal verifiers, external verifiers and awarding bodies as required.
  • Work to a range of performance indicators relevant to the services provided by Runway Training in order to ensure continuous quality improvement. Assist with the implementation of plans and systems as specified within the Continuous Improvement Strategy.
  • Be conversant with, and operate, all appropriate information technology resources available, and to keep abreast, of developments in this area.
  • To undertake other additional duties, consistent with the role as may be deemed appropriate by the Functional Skills/Operations Managers

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification to include Diploma in Education and Training, Certificate in Education or Post / Professional Graduate Certificate in Education
  • Level 2 qualification in maths and English language
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in assessing vocational learning (i.e. TAQA, CAVA).

 

Desirable

  • Relevant Level 3 (or above) subject qualifications
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in Information Technology
  • Level 2 Information, Advice and Guidance

 

EXPERIENCE

Desirable

  • Previous experience of delivering teacher education and training programmes.
  • Experience of undertaking observations of teaching, learning and assessment.

  • Good English and maths skills.
