The purpose of this role is to lead a team of staff connected with the Croydon centre to ensure implementation and execution of the GLA AEB Skills for Jobs contract.

Specifically, this will involve the following:

  • Having a clear plan of what is to be delivered and the expected monthly performance required from the profile to ensure delivery of financial targets
  • Sourcing learners via visits to agents including JCP offices, other providers,  community and voluntary organisations
  • Developing relationships with key stakeholders such as the funding body, local employers, councils, other providers
  • Working in partnership with the Business development Manager in sourcing employers who can provide access to job opportunities so that SWAP courses can be set up that align with the employers needs and provide learners with the right skills knowledge, interview preparation, Updated CVs and self-confidence to become valued members of the employer’s business.
  • Managing the staff within the centre, ensuring that the curriculum can be delivered to agreed start dates.
  • Overseeing the smooth running of the centre to ensure that all problems/issues are dealt with efficiently. 
  • To model and promote a positive, inclusive ethos that challenges discrimination and promotes equality and diversity, is suitable and welcoming to all learners and makes them feel at ease and excited to be part of Runway Training’s support services
  • Be aware of possible opportunities to expand the business via additional courses (potentially some of these may be on-line) and consider usage of additional space to increase business if it is financially viable to do so.
  • Work closely with a designated member of the Quality Team to ensure that AEB contract progresses in a manner which is compliant and meets the requirements of key stakeholders, including but not limited to, awarding bodies, prime contract holders, employers and learners. 
  • Ensuring that those who are involved with the delivery of the AEB contract are delivering to a high standard, meeting compliance requirements, and delivering in a timely manner, whilst also ensuring that they are given opportunities to reflect and make progress towards their own personal development journeys. This will include observations of Teaching and Learning in conjunction with the Quality Team
  • Arrange learner feedback discussions to get views and ideas from attendees to ensure the centre is providing the best overall service and support possible.

Main Responsibilities & duties of the role

This is not an exclusive list but is intended to give a good indication of the scope and requirement of the role. The responsibilities and duties of this role may change in line with the requirements of the business.  

  • To plan, implement and execute a project plan in fulfilment of GLA AEB contract, ensuring that project outcomes are delivered in a timely manner. 
  • To oversee the daily operations of GLA AEB contract, ensuring that progress is made towards key performance indicators, in fulfilment of Runway Training’s Strategic Plan. 
  • To be responsible for the effective line management and direction of designated staff including their appointment and induction (where necessary), deployment and progress through a robust communication and appraisal process.  
  • To ensure that staff within your management remit are fully supported and developed to achieve both team and individual progress targets in line with the strategic direction of Runway Training. 
  • Dealing with any staff issues as the first point of contact to reduce pressure on HR and facilitate solutions to minor issues that can easily and efficiently be solved with an effective manager.
  • Ensuring there is always staff available to deliver to learners including self-delivery if required. 
  • Plan cover for staff annual leave to minimise disruption to the daily running of the centre. 
  • To prepare reports for Senior Managers which demonstrate accurate and robust monitoring of performance against key performance indicators (starts, completions, outcomes).
  • To develop and maintain professional working relationships with key clients and stakeholders and to confidently represent Runway Training and its core values at all times. 
  • To work closely with the relevant staff in the Central Administration team to ensure that the processes and procedures for administrating and fulfilling the GLA AEB contract are monitored closely and adapted to ensure that they are fit for purpose at all times. 
  • To work closely with Quality Team and relevant staff in the Central Administration team to implement necessary audit functions to support the monitoring and reporting of the GLA AEB contract. 
  • To undertake continuing professional development which supports Runway Training’s culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that all details required for each learner are entered onto the Altitude system as efficiently and promptly as possible – including details of any assessments taken and a clear action plan for each one that clearly states where they are going to upskill and employment goals. This is likely to involve communication with centralised administration team via one admin employee in the centre with responsibility to carry out data entry tasks.
  • Holding a minimum of weekly Team meetings, but ideally also have a short and focused get together at both the start and finish of each day, so any specific targets can be shared and any amendments or changes to the original plan communicated effectively. Longer Team Meetings should focus on learner caseloads and share eg new job opportunities, specific additional support required for some learners, follow up on learners who have completed their courses and require further support to progress into employment
  • Check Altitude on a regular basis regarding accuracy of volumes of learners on the systems.
  • Ensure that stationary and other items required are purchased in a timely manner so that the centre is equipped with everything it requires on a daily basis.
  • Working with the team to achieve high outcome rates, with qualification completion rates over 80% and progressions into employment over 55% and further education over minimum 25% (these may change based on Operations Managers targets / expectations and via changes in expectations from the Funding bodies.
  • Work with other Centre Managers (especially those delivering the same contract) to share good practice and, where appropriate, resources (especially staff).
  • To be responsible for protecting staff and learners from all preventable harm as per safeguarding procedures.
  • To ensure that the staff are working together to make the centre look attractive and informative with learner work and up to date and relevant job opportunities on display.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested, including standing in for the Head of GLA Contracts

Essential

  • Proven experience as a manager in the education sector
  • Proven experience of managing educational contracts 
  • Knowledge of strategies to maximise student attendance and achievements.
  • Strong knowledge of funding rules across a variety of contracts.
  • Well organised
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Flexibility and openness to change.
  • Resourcefulness and excellent time management skills
  • Able to take the initiative. 
  • Project management experience
  • Have knowledge of the various funding/contracts and compliance requirements for all areas.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills plus use of Internet, social media, and on-line teaching platforms (Teams, Zoom etc)

Desirable

  • Willingness to attend training courses to widen scope of subjects that can be taught.
  • Attendance at conferences to ensure latest ideas and strategies are implemented.  
  • Strong teamworking skills with colleagues to enable progress, coordination and cover for illness, holiday etc when required.  
  • Awareness and experience of Ofsted inspections and requirements to ensure Good/Outstanding grades. 

Qualifications and Training 

Essential 

  • Level 3 management qualification (or willing to work towards)
  • Experience in Management
  • Minimum L3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent)
  • Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics 
  • L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or willing to work towards)
  • Mental Health First Aider (or willing to work towards)

Desirable

  • L5 Diploma in Education and Training 
  • Level 2 IAG qualification
  • Prince2 or AGILE project management qualification
  • Relevant Level 3 subject qualification
  • Functional skills level 2 in information technology
  • Level 2 information, Advice and Guidance
